I Remember
I walk out.
Out of the building.
My hiding place.
Out into the ruined town.
Out into the battlefield.
Out into the mist.
Flashback
I remember
I am a solider.
We came to this town.????
The enemy is here.
Gunfire.
Explosions.
Shouting.
Darkness.
I remember
My home.
My family.
Father...
Mother...
I remember
Gunfire.
Flashes.
Explosions.
Shouts by my enemy.
Shouts in German.
Shouts for medic.
I remember the eyes.
The eyes of my enemy.
I remember the night before, as we fell from the sky.
I remember
Normandy, France
I remember
June 6th 1944
I remember
My rifle
My rifle that had killed the enemy.
I remember the young mans face.
My enemy.
The gunshot.
I walk out of the mist.
June 6th 1944.
Normandy, France.
Bodies.
Young men.
Young men of our allies.
Young men of our enemy.
Young men who had died for their country.
Movement.
Enemy.
Gunfire.
Explosions.
Pain.
I remember my life, my family, my home, my friends, my country
I fall.
Proud.
I am Private Ellis.
I died for my country.
